Genetic engineering or modification of foods has been a source of serious discussion over the last few years. Just recently the American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM)* released its position paper on Genetically Modified foods stating that "GM foods pose a serious health risk" and calling for a moratorium on GM foods.
A GMO (genetically modified organism) is the result of a laboratory process of taking genes from one species and inserting them into another in an attempt to obtain a desired trait or characteristic, hence they are also known as transgenic organisms. This process may be called either Genetic Engineering (GE) or Genetic Modification (GM); they are one and the same. The Non-GMO Shopping Guide can be downloaded for free or purchased in bundles of 50-1000 for distribution.
