Sony Ericsson Introduces Elm & Hazel - Eco-Friendly Phones

The Elm will be available in "Metal Black and "Pearly Rose"

Sony Ericsson has just introduced two brand new "green" cell phones which are made to reduce the CO2 emissions. Aptly named Elm and Hazel, these devices are manufactured from recycled materials and are free from hazardous chemicals. The power adapter consumes less power compared to other chargers and the whole bundle comes wrapped in green packaging!

The Hazel will be available in "Passionate Rouge" and "Superior Black

Both phones are fairly similar and include onboard GPS, dual band 3G, 280 MB of internal memory augmented by microSD cards as well as a 5mp camera. The screen on the Hazel is 2.6 inches where as the Elm is a little smaller at 2.2 inches.

Pricing details have not yet been released however both phones will be available in 2010.

Ontario Cell Phone Ban In Effect October 26th

The Government of Ontario has banned all cellphone use while driving. The new law will take effect October 26, 2009, however a three-month "education period" will follow the enforcement. Starting February 1, 2010, drivers will be fined up to $500 for chatting, dialing, texting or emailing on hand-held devices.

Driver are four times more likely to be involved in an automobile accident if they are using a cellphone. Dialing and texting is even more dangerous!

"It is not safe to be texting, emailing or dialing a phone when you are driving a vehicle. Now it is also illegal," said Transportation Minister Jim Bradley in a news release.

Emergency services workers, including police, paramedics and firefighters will be exempt from the hand-held ban and drivers will be allowed to use their hand-held phones to call 911.

People under 35 are most guilty of using their phones and BlackBerries while driving.

Bell Canada and Sprint Launch Samsungs Eco-friendly cell phone

Sprint has already launched the Samsung Reclaim M560 but it will be available to Canadians through Bell Mobility around mid September.

The Reclaim is made from bio plastic materials which are corn based and 80% of the unit is recyclable. The charger is Energy Star approved and the phone itself comes in your choice of blue and green.

It comes with a 2.4 inch display (resolution of 320×240), a slide-out 4-row full QWERTY keyboard, MP3 Player, 2 megapixel camera with video capabilities, mold up to 32GB with a microSD card, 3.5mm headset jack, messaging options (IM, text and picture, plus e-mail), built-in GPS, web that displays full HTML pages.

The phone’s price and exact release date through Bell is unknown at the moment (Sprint sells it for only $49.99 with a contract agreement for 2 years).
