How sleep clears room in the brain

Now I can relate to this study as I'm sure most of you can! At the end of the day my mind is racing. Full of information, ideas, to do lists, schedules, meal plans, you name it. A good nights sleep works wonders!

How sleep 'clears room in the brain'

"Sleep does more than help us recover from stress and tiredness - it rewires the brain so we can learn more, research suggests.

Scientists studying fruit flies have discovered that while the body is resting, the brain is busy clearing room for new connections to be made between brain cells.

Since fruit flies have similar sleeping behaviour to humans, the researchers say their discovery could prove relevant.

It is already thought that our brains can become saturated with information and lose their capacity for learning, unless some of the connections - called synapses - built up during the day are trimmed back.

The study found that sleep helps fruit flies clear room in their brains for new knowledge.

This is going to sound wierd, but lately I've been noticing that if I sleep on my right side - I sleep better. But if I move to my left side, my mind starts buzzing. Last night admist the buzz while on my left side - I wondered if I was activating my left brain by lying on that side.

Yes, I was thinking too much. lol.

I generally sleep on my right side.
That's odd!
I also think way to much before my head gives in.
Sometimes it take hours of lying there to fall asleep.
It's obnoxious.
